I bought two of these to extend the cable length between my MacBook Pro laptop (with 4 Thunderbolt Ports) and the rest of my desktop peripherals. Like a lot of folks, I've needed some adapter options to plug things that aren't USB-C
/ Thunderbird based into my laptop, and in my case, a small Anker hub (Anker 341 USB-C Hub) covered all my basic needs for $25 or so. I've been running two monitors, with the Anker hub providing HDMI to one of them, Power delivery to the laptop, and USB-A connections to an external hard drive and to send audio to a DAC attached to my stereo, and with a direct USB-C connection to the other monitor (not using the hub for this - I *think* this is due to limitations in the MacOS, but whatever the
case, it doesn't work).
However, the laptop needs to move around some. It's mounted on an articulating arm which allows me to re-position it for Zoom calls or for times I wanted different angle on the screen, etc, and every time I moved it, I would drag the hub and everything attached to it, putting strain on the cord and the Thunderbolt port, and sometimes dragging my hard drive off the shelf it sits on. Not ideal, and for a while, I though the only way I could address it was to buy a much
costlier and more fully equipped Thunderbolt hub, like the CalDigit T3. I was so close to making that purchase, when I started to wonder if there were ways to just extend the cord and found this product, and I'm happy to report IT WORKED! I've now got the Anker hub stuck to the desk with double-sided silicone tape, and it does not move at all, and these extension cords let me move the laptop freely. The second cord (running direct from the port to a USB-C port on a monitor) is probably not
necessary - even though that cord was a little short, I could have just bought a longer one for less money. But, since I already had the cable routed how I wanted it, and was checking out these extensions, buying two made sense and worked great.
As noted in reviews and in the packaging, if you have issues, just flip the connecting side over. For some reason, some connections only work with the right side up. But overall, I got the functionality I wanted from a $300 Thunderbolt hub out of a
$20 cable and I'm happy.
