It absorbs the water and leaves the floor dry underneath. It’s not ideal for dish drying since the water puddles. It’s easy to clean, medium weight.For dog owners: Let’s admit sometimes dogs pee on our mats (chihuahuas anyone?) This generic diatomaceous is really easy to clean. No the ammonia won’t “rinse out”. You’ll need to use the light grit sanding paper to take off a fine layer once it’s dry. Thats it! No smell.For comparison: Su*era mat dries much much faster! It also weighs less and has a slight gritty texture and has a neutral temperature. Compared to the generic mat, which feels cold like tile without being slippery. The Su*era mat absorbs much faster, making it ideal for counter top dish dryingComparison for pet owners. The Su*era mat has really obnoxious grooves. Sensitive human feet won’t prefer it and it’s hard to get the discoloration of ammonia out completely. But guess what? The kids never dry off before getting out of the shower, and always leave the poor bathmat just sopping wet! Now it's no longer a problem. The bath stones also stay nice and cool in the summer. My cat loves to go in the bathroom and chill on the stones. I haven't had to clean them yet, so I can't comment on that whole process, but I'm kind of nervous. Oh, and the soap holders make great coasters. No more condensation marks on the wood furniture! I went to Amazon and found this two pack with 4 additional pieces that are coaster size. I put one in our master bathroom and gave the other one to one of my daughters. I shared the link with my sister since her cats like to pee on her bathmat, I thought this might solve the problem for her. I plan on getting two more for our other bathrooms here and for my son's house. They are that good. My feet are dryer from stepping on this than when I would use a bath mat. Fantastic purchase! These absorb almost instantly when you step out of the tub/shower, so when you come back after you have moved away, it doesn't make your feet/socks wet! Amazing! The additional cup holders are a great addition. I use them regularly and never have to worry about cup rings again. I notice some reviews mention that the mat stops working after a while. This is true, but it is not difficult to resolve. Diatomaceous Earth is porous. If the pores get blocked, it will not absorb as well. You have to clean it regularly. Just take about 1/4 cup of baking soda and some dish soap. Wet the mat in your shower, squeeze a little dish soap on it, add the baking soda, and scrub. Let dry and it should be absorbent again. I find this easier than sanding it but you could do it that way too.
